Summary The project deals with the development, testing and evaluation of an innovative seminar concept that aims at improving the competencies of EWC work by innovative forms of knowledge transfer and will thus enhance the participation capacities of the employee representatives in the Social Dialogue. In the framework of.the project cross-border approaches on the improvement of EWCs’ qualifications were developed and evaluated. This was on the developmentof a conception for existing EWC bodies that was tested and evaluated with the participation of EWCs from four European-wide acting companies Degussa (D), BP (F), Astra Zeneca (UK), Uponor (FIN). Members of the named EWCs participated in the development and testing of the concept. By this construction, not only representatives from four “old” and two “new”member states (the latter were then accession countries) but also members from other countries. The involved EWCs were made capable to work as teams. For this, the had to be tought to define joint targets and make qualified decisions in their areas of competence (vocational education and training, human resources development, employment issues etc…) in due time. An additional module was developed for the bridguing of intercultural barriers that are disadvantages for efficiency and acceptance. The contents and issues of the pilot seminars were related to the actual practice of the EWC work (mergers, sell-offs, company strategies, transfers/ removals etc).
