Project Number A/04/B/F/PP-158.114
Project Type Pilot Project, project with multiplying effect (2000-2006)
The European Dictionary of Skills and Competencies (DISCO) offers a much needed terminological support for the description of vocational skills and competencies as well as for the translation into other European languages. DISCO supports international comparability and transferability of competence profiles by its reference to European transparency documents as well as by taking into account international standards and classifications.
DISCO online tools are available free of charge at www.disco-tools.eu and offer e.g. a search and translation of skill terms or the composition and translation of CVs, Mobility Pass documents and other competence profiles. DISCO online services are also offered as webservices allowing integration into other portals.
Furthermore, a trilingual print version (English, German and French) can be ordered at www.amazon.at
The DISCO project aimed at the development of a tool that supports the composition of European CVs, Mobility Passes, Diploma Supplements and other transparency instruments and competence profiles. A multilingual professional dictionary for vocational skills and competencies was developed and offered in seven European languages (English, Czech, French, German, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Swedish) in the internet at www.disco-tools.eu.
Furthermore, a trilingual print version (English, German and French) was published and can be ordert at www.amazon.at.
The DISCO online tool and the DISCO book are addressed to individuals like pupils, students and job seekers as well as to experts who seek easy access to translation and a glossary of skills & competencies. The online tool is designed to be incorporated into the existing web applications of European transparency tools – or any other web portal, that needs terminological support.
We hope, that DISCO will be a stepping stone on the pathway to a common European standard on vocational requirements.
Main products of the DISCO project:
1. A thesaurus of vocational skills and competencies developed in seven European languages with 9.000 to 10.000 terms per language.
2. The DISCO online portal offering the DISCO thesaurus in a tree view in different language versions (experten function) with a search and translation function for single terms. The main part of the application is the profiler tool which enables users to compose and translate CVs, Mobility passes and simple skill and competence lists.
3. The DISCO book offering for experts as well as for individuals a handsome reference source for vocational skills and competencies in English, German and French.
