Marketing Text The project aimed at adapting and integrating into VET contexts an innovative and successful methodology to improve and support VET actors in favoring students at risk of early school leaving to complete their educational training and reacting to the “bullying” phenomenon and social and scholastic exclusion.
The project has been implemented to deal with the phenomenon of the early school leaving (ESL) and its effects at individual level. ESL is a multifaceted and complex problem, which is common in all participating VET secondary schools (Italy, Romenia, Turkey), as stressed in Italian and European official reports and statistics (Istat, OCSE, Eurostat).
The project aimed at transferring to other European countries the performing and successful peer to peer tutoring methodology experimented by the secondary educational and vocational school Casagrande/Cesi. Peer-to-Peer Tutoring is a method of instruction that involves students teaching other students and it's an effective educational strategy for classrooms of diverse learners, that can be an obstacle to remain at school, because it promotes academic gains as well as social enhancement.
The Transfer has been done at geographical level (in Centre and South Italy, Romania and Turkey) among different iVET institutes and also extended to teachers/trainers.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES of the project were related to:
-adapt and integrate into participating VET contexts an innovative and successful methodology to improve and support VET actors in favoring students at risk of ESL to maintain their motivation and complete their education and training;
-test/ implement an innovative approach to solve identified problems and address disadvantaged groups (immigrants, disable people, people at risk of exclusion, dropouts, long term unemployed), including trainers, learners and other stakeholders;
-define a simple and user friendly system of indicators for monitoring and measuring the achievements following the experimentation and the evaluation of the effectiveness of the P2P planned model.
The project was based on the conviction that reducing drops out and helping younger not to abandon schools and VET courses early, implies to experiment and test the peer education methodology to both target groups: students and teachers.
Thus the main outputs were related to the experimentation of groups of peers will be the Guidelines for junior and for senior, a training path on the methodology for staff partners and Action Learning within each iVET institutes for students and teachers, raising awareness events on the phenomenon and tools developed by the partnership. The impact envisaged was on a general improvement of the scholastic climate, reduction of abandon, scholastic integration, social and like skills and a general improvement of the quality of VET systems involved.
The project structure has foreseen an operative framework based on the Work Packages under the cyclic base of the Quality cycle (EQARF for VET) consisting in activities related to Model Peer Tutoring adaptation (Analysis of the context and basic needs assessments of the youth at particular risk of Early School Leaving and trainers/teachers); Transferring of a PEER EDUCATION model and strategy to reduce the number of abandon in VET (Adaptation- Implementation- experimentation of the Programme); Assessment and Evaluation of the testing based on a quality assurance framework (CQAF) and Dissemination and Communication of final outputs and results achieved (feedback and procedure for change as an effect of the results’ communication and to improve final results before dissemination).
At the end of the project, the partnership has developed summary report on the needs of local contexts and schools involved in the various countries, a synthetic report on the needs of the actors of VET process (Wp1); a transnational thematic workshop on PEER education model; Guidelines to support the implementation of the strategy and methodology based on Peer tutoring education with a focus on the target group " STUDENTS and its revision «; Guidelines to support the implementation of the strategy and methodology based on Peer tutoring education with focus on target groups " TEACHERS / TRAINERS and its revision; Action Plan which sets out the maximum basic steps and timescales for the implementation of the methodology; Detailed plan for each participant containing appropriate adaptations, how to, tenses, responsibilities and resources used to systemize P2P methodology suitably tailored on own VET context (Wp2).
Concerning Wp3, the training "peer" seminars has been hold in all countries and open to the staff of the participating partners during the project lifetime. Pilot Action Learning has been realized in all participating countries. Finally, a monitoring plan and evaluation report has been realized by an external quality evaluator (Wp4). About the dissemination of results, an awareness raising campaign has been carried out in all countries by several meetings of Line Committees and by the spread of videos/Cd roms and PP presentation to show practically how Peer tutoring methodology works; Dissemination Plan has been updated during the project implementation and a Sustainability Plan has been shared by partners during the Final Conference of Ostuni.
