Title Validating competences gained at the workplace in case of low qualified people
Project Number 2013-1-GR1-LEO05-14120
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text The Validaid + project aims at developing methods and tools for identifying and validating competences gained in the workplace and opening gateways to education and training to make it easier for low-qualified individuals to develop their competences, and by that secure their position on the labor market.
The main assumption underlying this project is the notion that the workplace is a learning environment. The learning elements involve technological development, global connections, non-formal education and training, on the job training, development of social skills such as group-work, teamwork and basic skills such as computers, languages etc.
As the world of working is changing constantly, it is important to find ways to identify useful competences that can be built upon both in work and further education and training. It is important that the competences which an individual develops outside the formal school system are transparent, documented and recognized.
For the individual, accreditation/recognition of non-formal/informal competences can be a strong motivational factor towards an active participation in lifelong-learning in accordance with ET2020 strategy. Through the identification of competences, the company may find it easier to develop more appropriate educational plans, that lead to improvement in quality and production.
This 24 month project aims at transferring “VALID AID” project methods and tools for identifying and validating competences gained in the workplace and opening gateways to education and training to make it easier for low-qualified individuals to develop their competences, and by that secure their position on the labor market.
The target group and the beneficiaries of the project are:
• Low-qualified employees, who have not completed upper secondary education.
• VET centres, career guidance centres, etc
• Stakeholders from the 3 chosen sectors: trade, hospitality and administration
The chosen sectors are: trade, hospitality and administration.
In order to spread the progress of the project to the target sector, target groups, potential and final users, several marketing channels are used and innovative diffusion activities are undertaken. The project partnership follows a targeted and intensive dissemination activity plan including networking activities, preparation of meetings and development of several different materials for dissemination (e-mail campaign, online activity, leaflet distribution, etc.).
The project is developing in close cooperation of 6 partners from 5 countries – Greece, Hungary, Spain, Italy and Bulgaria. All partners in the consortium have almost equal responsibilities concerning the project realization as the project results will be developed in all partner’s languages.
In the first phase of the project a research study was conducted presenting the situation of validation of informal and non-formal education and training in the partners’ countries. Based on the project partners shared experience and after a focus group discussion with employers, employees and stakeholders of the chosen sectors in each country, the partnership is developing the Validation Kit with interactive tests and guidelines to companies on evaluation of their employees. Subsequently, in co-operation with employers of the sectors in the participating countries, the methods and tools will be tested in each of the partner countries by 20 people in the present project frame. The final Validation Kit for each sector will be finalized upon the results and feedback of the test. During the project the transferability of the tools to other companies/sectors will also be tested.
The successful implementation of this project will bring a lot of new knowledge and expertise to the partners and to the partner countries. To make the project results sustainable and to facilitate the knowledge to be easily transferred and widely spread beyond, the project consortium is developing an interactive web platform translated in all partner languages and English.
The platform will perform all developed project outcomes in an interactive way. Thus it will be possible to be used by different type of beneficiaries all over the EU and the world of work and support them in training and further training activities in the acquisition and the use of knowledge, skills and qualifications to facilitate personal development, employability and participation in the European labor market.
