The new European visual-gestural FoodCom code in the catering industry, available as paper brochures and in electronic version (on digital tablets) aims at removing barriers such as access for people with disabilities or with low level of qualififcations to the first labor market, as well as barriers to mobility at European level. The FoodCom code contains professional gestures analyzed and identified in significant professional situations, as well as professional attitudes for certification.
Thus, the FoodCom teaching method was created. It refers to the process of construction of the visual-gestural language through the interaction with its users, to the process of formal learning based on the learning modules, and to the evaluation of acquired codes and gestures. The teaching method is accompanied by a FoodCom booklet for the learners, available in English and in French.
Target group The main beneficiaries of the visual-gestural FoodCom code are teachers, tutors and the participants of experimentations, as well as all persons wishing to learn the visual-gestural code and to use it in the catering professional environment.
Result The use of the FoodCom code removes barriers to communication in professional situations such as noise, disability (deaf persons, etc.), as well as to professional mobility such as knowledge of foreign languages.
