Title "FAMILY CAREER COMPASS - Efficient Career Guidance Approaches Supporting Parents in Guiding their Children’s Vocational Career”
Project Number 2013-1-PL1-LEO05-37576
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text FAMICO is an invaluable system for school vocational counselors with tools, methods and mind set to work with families and children of all age.
EU constitutes a territory facing constant changes in labour market. Issues such as rapidly changing economic environment, the economic recession, the continuous technological breakthroughs, affect and influence the role of the family in raising children. According to Young & Friesen parents help children develop work values, self-awareness, self-confidence and interpersonal skills, grasp personal responsibility, exercise decision-making skills and through that mix identify the most appropriate work experience opportunities. Additionally, parents are the primary providers of encouragement for children to reach vocational goals and model their career-related behaviour and learning experiences (Turner&Lapan).
The FAMICO project aims at developing career counsellors competences, while improving their skills in guiding parents to support children’s vocational decision-making process.
Through this process, vocational counsellors will be able to foster personal development of students not only by facilitating the individual but with support of family system in its different developmental stages. Parents, who are one of the major factors of the student’s career decisions, will know better how to facilitate career management and have a deep awareness of age differences.
The project is organized around 8 workpackages all reflecting different aspects and stages of project life-cycle and are lead by a different partner – an expert in respective domain.
Three WPs last for the whole duration of the project and they are “Communication and Management” (WP1), “Dissemination and exploitation” (WP8) and “Quality Assurance” (WP7).
Other WPs represent stage work that started with “Needs Analysis” (WP2). Based on the results of above stage the “Adaptations of the materials for counsellors and for parents” (WP3) to the three age groups of children took place in the first part of the project realisation. Along with adaptations of the materials, the “Training programme adaptations” followed in WP4. In order to ensure the highest quality and usability of the final products the partnership is in the process of undertaking a testing procedure – “Piloting” (WP6) which will enable to adjust the project output fully to the expectations and requirements of the target group.
The key stage for successful implementation of the project products are “Quality and Evaluation Assurance” (WP7) based both on internal actions as well as external assessment to assure right quality of project results. As the project is a transfer of innovation the “Dissemination and exploitation” activities (WP8) are of great importance throughout the whole project duration and beyond.
Results achieved in the first year of the project relisation is the needs analysis done in partner countries summarised in the Synthesis Report. Another key result was Repository of materials on family oriented vocational counselling. In the first year of the project the transfered materials for counsellors and parents have been adapted according to the results of the needs analysis. The training curriculum have also been updated as well as the e-platform was developed. In the second year partners will conduct the piloting of transferred materials in order to finalize the materials for counsellors and parents.
