The book is based on the expert knowledge of the following, for the low-energy and passive house construction-related trades: roofers, electrical installation and electrical engineering, precast construction, installation and building services, bricklayers, chimney sweep, shielding engineering, and carpenters.
It should not and cannot replace the fundamental training and knowledge of these professions, but add the missing low-energy and passive house relevant know-how and also provide insight into the neighboring disciplines the relevant initial training. This is regarded as an indispensable part of a multidisciplinary basis and understanding of sustainable building culture and therefore emphasized.
At the beginning of each chapter is carried out a brief overview of the content of teaching and the skills that are acquired through successful elaboration thereof. The manual has a modular design - detailed information about the technical training (NQF Level 3) to go out, have a gray background (NQF Level 4).
Although the term "passive house" - although often wrongly used - clearly defines the structural rules and implementation details shown are but of course then and where due to various influences of the above-defined passive house standard does not quite reach, or - in the case of so-called "plus-energy buildings" - even is exceeded.
After learning more relevant to planning, but for the full understanding of important basics in Part 1 of the actual craft part begins with the "green field" - as craftswomen at the first arrival at the building site.
In volume 2, new typical detailed drawings follow starting with the foundation on basement and plinth formations, thermal bridges and airtight design of wall and window joints to correct roof constructions. When selecting the exemplary component shown and connection detail solutions emphasis was placed on a most simple, fault-tolerant and suitable for construction sites manufacturability.
The implementation of these principles is based on seven built, mostly PHI or climate: shown active certified objects in solid, lightweight or mixed. The preparation of these seven as houses - from single-family home on a six-storey student hostel to the three-storey Plus - Energy – office building in hybrid construction- is explained step by step on the basis of numerous site photos and plan documents.
An important part of modern building forms the building whose different heating, cooling and ventilation systems are clearly explained in part 3. Volume 4 deals with the renovation. Complemented and rounded the technical part is a Glossary of terms used and an extensive standards, technical rules and references.
