The project created a cross-border and cross-cultural approach to increase participation of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in vocational education and training (VET). The aim was the transfer and integration of methodologies and tools from the BeCome and ROLE projects. The innovative methodologies identify the Business Critical Needs (BCNs) of a MSE as well as the associated Learning Indicators. The Responsive Open Learning Environments provide customized learning and training solutions that enable to meet those learning indicators. The result contributes towards increased engagement of MSEs in VET across the EU.
The wider impact on the VET systems nationally can be summarised as:
1. successful models established for engagement between key players - VET providers and MSE employers
2. changes in approach by VET providers resulting in positive measured impact on MSE businesses in addressing their BCNs
3. access to high quality e-learning resources for VET providers nationally
4. synergy between partners and countries resulting in sharing of experience and expertise across borders to enhance all partner VET systems
At its beginning BOOST created the Project Handbook, started to use the BSCW system for project management purposes, and established its web site, complemented by social media. Then the Innovative Operational Support Methodology (IOSM) was specified, integrating the BeCome and ROLE approaches. Functional requirements for the BOOST Platform were specified and based on them the Technical Prototype was implemented. These outcomes were consulted with potential stakeholders, in order to identify the existing issues and to improve the final version of the BOOST Platform. The project results were disseminated at various workshops and conferences, including UMAP, EC-TEL, and CB4LLP.
In the second year the BOOST Platform was further developed and localized for the partners’ languages. Also IOSM and the User Guide were translated. Promotional materials and evaluation tools were provided in all 5 languages too. Evaluation of the BOOST approach was the key task in this year. Various case studies were conducted for this purpose. 55 enterprises were involved and 97 individual managers and employees tested the tools that helped them to identify their business goals and organize their learning processes. At the end of the project a conference for training providers, business networks, and policy makers took place in Sankt Augustin. A suitable sustainability strategy for project outcomes was developed too.
