Title KILT - KNOWLEDGE IDENTITY LANGUAGE TOOLS
Project Number 2013-1-FR1-LEO05-48430
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
The KILT project is based on the observation of difficulties experienced by health and social workers with regard to personal relationships with people they support.
This, to allow these professionals in establishing the most efficient human relationships possible, respectful of the intrinsic socio-cultural characteristics of the people they work with: Roms in Slovakia, immigrants in Bologna, Barcelona and Edinburgh, the elderly and dependent in the mountainous valleys of the Basque Country, etc.
To develop this aptitude in forging strong and balanced relationships with those being supported, in addition to what is already covered by European social work courses, the KILT tools try to be taken into greater consideration cultural and linguistic identities to create methods providing support in social work.
The KILT training is designed as an interactive process which leads the participant through a series of exercises that aim to challenge and promote critical reflection at a personal and professional level.
The KILT framework is supported by a theoretical foundation to support the active learning process of discovery and adaptation leading to transformative change.
The training aims to develop awareness about identities, both at a personal level and in relation to the people or communities which they will be working with.
KILT is based on the assumption that being challenged, critically reflecting and being willing to be open to new perspectives on the part of the practitioner encourages an easier and more open and sharing relationship with the service user.
KILT is a transformative process which promotes individual change through encouraging both self-reflection and an exploration of the way we relate to others. This is reflected in the training approach, and the premise that each participant undergoes a process of reconstruction and reaffirmation at their own pace.
"Key transformation verbs" illustrate the progression of change as a series of points along a pathway organised around the 7 modules.
This set of exercises, or tools is organised around a "training structure" presented on the following page: a consistent "Cultural Kit, supplemented by a "Linguistic Kit" which is currently based on the IDEA game, a tool developed by the Italian partners as part of another European project.
It is this package which will initially be disseminated to stakeholders across our 5 countries, before addressing a broader European perspective.
