Marketing Text The German Insurance Industry aims to qualify people in vocational education at a very high level and to adapt the curriculum constantly to the requirements of the labor market. This pilot project, which contains theoretical and practical modules in different business fields of the Danish insurance branch, was launched to enable the trainees enhance their competence profile abroad. By these means trainees are optimally prepared according to demands of the labor market in the insurance industry.
The real goal of the project was the enhancement of the methodical, professional, social, intercultural and language skills. It was important as well to enhance the motivation and maturity of the trainees. Due to the demographic change it is becoming increasingly difficult to recruit appropriate candidates for the vocational training in the insurance industry. For this reason it is sensible to integrate additional modules like going abroad into the existing educational content and thereby to make the education more attractive, particularly for high performance individuals. Within the project ten German trainees had the possibility to work for 3 weeks on different topics in the context of the Danish insurance industry. In the first week they mainly focused on the didactic methods of the Danish Insurance Academy as well as of the Danish vocational education in general. The professional focus contained aspects of the life and property insurance segment. According to the knowledge and interests of the trainees, they were able to chose the business domain within the company. The trainees documented their learning progress in a project report of at least 10 pages, finally they presented the results of the project work in a presentation.
The results of the evaluation have shown that trainees were able to significantly enhance their competences. They positively stressed the increase of their motivation and independence. Furthermore, they agree that a stay abroad can increase the attractiveness of the vocational training.
