Title Online training course in biomechanics, medical devices and related European regulations
Project Number DE/13/LLP-LdV/TOI/147604
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Due to increasing personal costs within the EU, the traditional manufacturing sector faces a crisis. Thus manufacturing companies must find new markets for products with a higher added value. One of these sectors is Healthcare Technology. In this sector, companies can develop new healthcare products with high added value by applying advanced knowledge and expertise.
To guarantee a successful change to this sector, it is necessary that the companies and employees have a wide knowledge in the following topics:
• knowledge regarding medical devices
• medical devices regulation
• basic knowledge regarding biomaterials
The main objective of the project is the transfer and update of knowledge in biomechanics, regulatory affairs, and medical devices through an online training course for staff of those companies interested in diversifying to the healthcare technology sector, and those companies which are already in the sector but need to update its knowledge in this field.
The main objective of the ToHealth project was to transfer and update the knowledge of specification and regulatory framework of medical devices. The project is aimed at companies and organizations involved in production, development and Placement of medical devices on the market. However, the course is also for employees of a company which would like to establish in the medical device sector. Therefore, a computerized learning system was generated with the following contents:
• Medical device specifics
• Medical devices regulation
Therefore, ToHealth provides and enhances skills and knowledge of European manufacturing professionals which are planning to diversify to the healthcare technology sector and also to those which are already in the sector.
Result 1 (TRAINING CONTENTS FOR ALL THE COURSE MODELS:
A questionnaire about the course contents was developed and was send as an online survey to potential stakeholders. The responses to the questionnaire were reviewed by the partners and the data were analysed and processed (work package 1).Thereupon, a course guide was developed which included the structure of the course. The structure described the number of modules, sessions and a set of resources for the sessions. The course contents were defined with the help of the analyzed questionnaires. For that reason, a draft of a training development plan was created. After the approval of the development plan the objectives of the training modules, sessions and units were developed. Subsequently, a pilot course was generated and evaluated by students. After the validation of the course, the course contents were translated into the national languages (work package 2)
Result 2 (ONLINE TRAINING COURSE):
The online course can be visited at the lms platform https://lms.tohealth.eu/
Result 3 (RESULTS GENERATED IN THE VALUATION PLAN):
A project logo was developed to increase the recognition of the project. The project logo is involved at every document, website etc. A link to the ToHealth program is included at the websites of the partners companies (work package 5). The ToHealth project was presented at different conferences, for example the European Workshop on Advanced Technologies for Training in Minimally Invasive Surgery (Caceres, ES) and Medica (Düsseldorf, Germany)(work package 5). Leaflets about the ToHealth Project were distributed at these conferences, meetings and in partners companies.
To improve the dissemination of the project a ToHealth Twitter account and LinkedIn Group was created. Furthermore, an Exploitation and Valuation Plan was developed and signed by all partners. This plan includes amongst others the Valorization Plan and IPRs (work package 5).
To guarantee the quality of the project (work package 6, result 1,2,3) quality reports were composed every six months. There, every partner evaluated the quality of deliverables of the previous period. Furthermore, a Quality Plan was created, which determines the quality aims of the project.
The steering committee, which was composed by at least one representative of each partner, met each other every 3-4 months (videoconference or in person meetings) (work package 6, result 1,2,3).
For a better exchange among the partners and a better control of the project status the management tool Admin Project was used.
