Title Methods for teaching foreign languages
Project Number 2013-1-FR1-LEO05-47980
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text Methods is a TOI project (Transfer of Innovation) based on the original BP-BLTM project, the consortium has selected five communicative teaching methods appropriate for language teachers of vocational training and their students, especially those who are preparing for or are in the middle of a course in other countries. For each method, the project has developed sets of materials and instructions for exemplary lessons. Each method is described in a manual which has been translated into the partner languages. There is also a work placement guide, which will be ready at the end of the project period. The guide will help teachers, students, international coordinators and others working with sending students abroad, and even teachers preparing for mobility can use the guide
The consortium has selected five communicative language teaching methods suitable for VET teachers and their students, especially those preparing for or in the midst of work placement in other countries. For each method the project developed sets of materials and instructions for exemplary lessons.
To help the training of the less experienced teachers the use of the methods and materials are demonstrated through instructional video recordings of exemplary lessons.
Our main outputs to be translated, adapted and transferred are:
-A video library with subtitled commented recordings of the five methods used in real classes.
-Five manuals presenting the 5 methods, instructions and ready to copy and use materials
-An International Work Placement Guide
This project will transfer the BP-BLTM results to France (Guadeloupe), Malta and Slovenia by adapting and translating the guide, the methods manuals, the ready to use in classes materials and the subtitles for the project videos and run a large number of teacher courses.
After the first transfer the partnership's teachers will be coached in the 5 methods at workshops. These will be followed by peer review of their teaching in own classes to ensure best application of the methods. These teachers become “multipliers” and run similar workshops followed by peer review in order to exploit, evaluate and further adapt the materials.
The project consortium comprises VET colleges from FR, MT, and SI involved in language teaching and work placement. The DK partner was the coordinator of the BP-BLTM project.
The project will run pilot courses, to evaluate the best ways of running courses, and then we will be running official courses for language teachers, or other interested parties. We also aim at the tourism sector, to include these people in the development of the acquisition of foreign language skills.
Description The project is based on the POOLS-M BP-BLTM project that has been very successful and focused on the need for improved methods of language teaching used by schools for vocational training. The guidelines for the teaching of foreign languages to grant priority has the ability to communicate - yet it has become apparent teacher and student are infrequent use of the target language in the classroom and that teachers have limited knowledge methods of teaching using ICT. Several studies have indicated that the use of ICT by teachers methods is insufficient, so the use of methods that teach foreign languages successfully accompanied ICT is widely integrated into BP-BLTM methods. The recommendations for an action plan by the expert group thematic ICT (Language for Jobs), organized by the EU in 2010 indicate "develop teaching modules specialized language and methodology for teacher and educator training professional "because" the teaching of foreign language teachers is generally not oriented VET sector. The TOI is an innovation exported from Denmark to three new countries: France (Guadeloupe), Malta, and Slovenia. The transfer of Innovation is based on the 5 methods, the course guide and the international work placement guide. This project aims at improving access to ready and free to use materials based on communicative language teaching, and to improve our options within access and availability of language teaching materials for vocational education.
