Marketing Text Bridging The Gap has seen the creation of new entrepreneurs and new jobs in 5 countries. The partnership have created, adapted and shared an innovative and established method of creating new entrepreneurs and new jobs which has, and can, be used in any community, any sector and any country. Through bringing together enterprise, people and innovation The Bridge Model will allow people across Europe to create their own futures.
'Don't wait for a job to come to you - create your own!' has been the key idea driving this Transfer of Innovation project. BTF, in partnership with 5 organisations, adapted an innovative methodology of training & developing entrepreneurs,"The Bridge Model” (TBM), and used it to meet new&established needs in new socio-cultural & linguistic contexts.TBM emerged in the UK from businesses & trainers collaborating to up-skill individuals to run their own businesses – a model which saw over 18 successful enterprises launched in the last 24 months.TBM is an enabling & empowering training methodology consisting of group & 1-on-1 coaching sessions, workshops, access to contemporary information & ongoing support from business experts. It is facilitated by peer-to-peer coaching; integrating the learning experience of business methodology with that of real business initiation&development.Bridging The Gap targeted business/enterprise incubators, employability centres&VETs who engaged with marginalised individuals looking to become entrepreneurs. The TOI saw organisations learn new methods of developing, especially amongst hard-to-reach individuals, the key competencies needed for developing enterprises. The focus was on local people(without formal business experience) to be coached by VET tutors & active entrepreneurs&develop the qualities, experiences, attitudes&skills of business in order to create & operate their own micro-businesses.This coaching enhanced their capacity & capability to operate a successful business & create employment.TBM for Europe will be used by VET trainers working alongside existing entrepreneurs to engage with, coach and develop their learners.
BTG involved 6 organisations from EU countries, with an expertise&experience in business incubation & VET training, & who work with target groups made up of hard to reach individuals e,g, youth, migrants, disabled. The aim was to develop, evolve & enhance TBM so it can be used in new socio-cultural environments, new languages and for new target groups. This was achieved&ensured results were relevant, innovative&beneficial to the UK&other EU VET training systems.BTG achieved this through testing, sharing of partner experiences, development of new resources & the integration of new needs. The Bridge Model for Europe is,&will, be an effective, tested, practical methodology&attitude for VET trainers & learners. It is a means of job creation, employability training & of infusing an enterprising spirit into communities.
BTG involved four transnational meetings with the key activity being the three month pilot of The Bridge Model in 5 new geographic areas: Athens, Friesland, Madrid, Liverpool and Gotse Delchev and new socio-cultural environments eg specifically targeting the disabled, female&mature potential entrepreneurs. The piloting used the written course handbook&step by step guide created by the partnership in their own languages. The outcome of the TNMs&pilot was an adaptable & flexible version of The Bridge Model, based on its development in Birmingham. These products will enable new EU organisations to utilise the methodology amongst their own beneficiaries. The ultimate result being a wave of new social entrepreneurs and jobs across the continent, especially those from marginalised communities.
Actions, Work Packages and Results
WP1: Project Management
- This module was delivered very succesful& we have had four transnational meetings which established and maintained the partnership as an effective working unit with clear aims& objectives, clear work practices throughout the project. TNMs also provided the project the chance to work on all the products, add European value and address any risks and concerns. Financial management practices, profromas and monitoring has been performed at all relevant times with 8 financial reports submitted.
- Formal agreements, around all areas, were made with all partners, detailed handbooks&workplans were made&used as the basis for project management. Strong & devolved project management took place with clear work plans & regular reminders embraced all partners. Around areas of particular concern or focus extra meetings were held virtually & face to face in both one-on-one & group formats. The resulting clear minutes, action plans & products reflected this. Extra project management support was offered at each TNM through individual partner meetings. These were attended and valued.
WP2: Needs Analysis and Research
BTG produced a comprehensive state of the art analysis, utilising primary and secondary research, which was used to shape all products&results.WP2 was led by Stitching Business Development Friesland and utilised a research framework, the conducting of the research in each country and feedback delivered at transnational meeting two. BTG also used the research to inform blogs & opinion pieces.
WP3: Preparation, Adaption&Transfer and WP4: Piloting and Testing
