The project has the aim to enable instructors and teachers involved in elearing and in the application of information and communiction technologies in 6 selected Upper-Austrian model schools (elearning cluster schools) to exchange experiences in the practical application of elearning units and to get to know innovative methods and systems.
Through such an international exchange we expect an improvement of the qualification of the participating teachers, since the gained knowledge can be applied in the daily routine work at the schools. As a result the students will be able to share this knowledge by getting to know innovative approaches from the beginning. The majority of the participating teachers are no language teachers and they expect from the project, whose project language will be English, some improvements of their language skills.
The project applied for is part of an initiative by the Austrian ministry of education (eLearning cluster Austria - MR Dr. Christian Dorninger), in which 50 innovative Austrian schools cooperate at putting eLearning models into practice.
Although Austria is ranking quite well with its model to realize the European eLearning objectives and the Lisbon and Feira resolutions, an exchange with other European initiatives is important for the streamlining and orientation of strategies.
The scheduled mobility is part of a long-term strategy for the advanced training of teachers of Upper Austrian eLearning cluster schools and it is part of a self-generated training concept for instructors at these schools. This very exchange shall last for 8 days for the total of 20 teachers of eLearning cluster schools.
The partner-institution C.N.E.D (Centro Naval de Ensino a Distancia - Centre for Distance Education of the Portuguese Navy) in Lisbon / PT was chosen because of the centre's year-long experience and knowledge in the field of eLearning (eLearning and distance education courses for further professional training of its members, development of teacher-training courses). The centre has also offered to involve the Portuguese Telecom and other firms and institutions within the planned visit.
The activities of the Austrian teaching staff shall took place before the end of the year 2004 to be able to integrate the results and experiences already in the third year of the project.
