Marketing Text AVARES aims at producing an educational system, which is suitable for learning about renewable energy sources and their use in an interesting and attractive way. Web 2.0, Multimedia and virtual reality technologies are used.
In 2010 the European Commission presented its new vision for the future of vocational education and training. As has been written in that document, vocational education and training is chosen by an average of around 50% of all students in upper secondary education. However, the sector needs to be modernized to make it more attractive and more relevant for job market needs aiming at helping young people (with the right skills and key competences) to find a suitable job and adults to have an opportunity to update skills throughout their working life. There are several ways how to give vocational education and training a new impetus. First of all, by ensuring the highest possible quality of education and training by using new, creative and innovative methods for education. Last, but not least, vocational education and training has to provide more opportunities for disadvantaged groups such as school drop-outs, the low-skilled and unemployed, people with migrant backgrounds or the handicapped people.
At present, Web 2.0 technologies are actively intervening into the educational process. Technologies such as wireless or mobile networks, netbooks, iPads or iPhones very quickly find their place in the learning process and school stage. As technologies change the society, they change the education and training systems as well. AVARES project presents a way of how to use virtual reality, Web 2.0 technologies and methods of learning for an efficient and attractive shifting from the traditional book/textbook paradigm to a new way of the digital learning content in the vocational education and training.
AVARES project is based on the principles of European qualification framework, which combines national qualification systems of different countries and places in its stated target: to bring together qualification systems in the field of energy - particularly renewable energy.
Description AVARES aims at transferring courses on renewable energy sources (RES) created in the context of the RESNET project to multimedia and virtual reality (VR) based versions embedded in a contemporary educational framework. The basis of the framework will be a VLE (virtual learning environment), like Moodle, where apart from traditional types of learning materials, an auditorium and a 3D virtual park will give a new attractive dimension to vocational training. 3D park will include a number of interesting places for having virtual experiences with processes or artifacts related to RES. Also, an auditorium will play the role of a virtual class.
