Title La deuxiéme chance dans l'hospitalité
Project Number 2012-1-HU1-LEO05-5840
The project aims at expanding the skills of those working in hospitality.
Hospitality is a labour-intensive industry so it is worth investing in the training of hospitality professionals however due to seasonality it often occurs that the hotel is obliged to use the same employee in different areas, e.g. a waiter might be placed in the housekeeping department, or front office department by the end of the season. The hotels often face such problems in employment - which is proved by the fact that the members of the consortium welcomed the idea to train catering pofessionals further into hospitality - front or back office or housekeeping. Hoteliers /owners and managers of hotels in Hungary/, members of hotel associations, and the applying training institution firmly believe that the project does have such tangible and intangible outcomes which improve the standard of hospitality:
- more qualified workforce
- stable jobs
- job security
- reasonable workschedules
- higher standard of hotel service
- more satisfied clientele
- returning guests
- more income
By completing the course the participants who are already skilled in catering, will have better chances to find a job at hotels or guesthouses where there is a rising demand for multiskilled workers. As the course will obviously raise the chances of the participants in the labour market it is supposed to become popular with young catering professionals. We expect that there will be a steady number of participants which guarantees sustainability in the long run as well. As the course will be a course for adult learners, and will not be involved into the curriculum of the school, it will be submitted for accreditation by the Hungarian Adult Education Accreditating Office, and later other insitutions will also be authorised to run the course throughout the country. The overall aim however is to enhance the competitiveness of catering professionals in hospitality industry which is the ultimate target and also the ultimate envisaged impact.
Description The concrete aim is to take over some modules of the German Hotelfachfrau/Mann apprenticeship programme, by far the most widely offered apprenticeship scheme in the hospitality sector, which offers a generalist training that provides work and training in all hotel departments on a rotational basis. Only those modules will be taken over from the programme which would concentrate on the front office and the back office tasks, and also those modules which cover areas that are not covered by the basic Hungarian prorgamme called catering technician, which would be the input to and prerequisite of the programme. So only those students could enrol for the course who have a certificate of catering technician. This is how we realise multiskilling, and meet a real demand in hospitality. The aim is to take over a 6 month program which can be built on the existing two-year long catering technician course. The 6-month program would be devided into a theoretical training period /2 months/ and a practical training period /4 months/. The 2-month theoretical training would take place in the KOTK Trining Center in Hungary /in 280 hours/, the 4-month /640 hours/ practical training would take place in training places, in the local hotels around Lake Balaton, Hungary. By running the practical training in existing hotels, we would like to address the claim of the economy and also vocational education policy, which says that meeting the continuously changing demands of the economy can be realised by the dual vocational training system, which is also of German origin. The first course is the test course, which will be tested in a way that the theoretical part will run from the beginning to the end, while the practical parts will run in modules simultaneously, so testing will take only 3 months all together. After completing it, the school would finalise the material, the training programme and would hand it in for accreditation into the Hungarian Adult Education Accreditating Office. So the accreditated programme would be availabe for other training centers as well.
