In WP2: Determinants that influence the choice of traditional food products, the key parameters in the consumer of traditional food products have to be evaluated. A methodology to organize Focus Groups in Portugal, Spain and Romania was developed by UCP-ESB (partner 3) from Portugal, leader of this WP and it was analyzed by all the partners to establish a common protocol. The Focus Group (FG) / Discussion Groups which will be organized are an interviewing technique which normally meets six to twelve participants and a moderator at the scene of a structured discussion about a particular subject. Participants are carefully selected to ensure similar characteristics. The questions are asked by the moderator and the objective is to collect the perceptions, opinions, beliefs and attitudes towards a product, service, concept, advertisement, idea, or packaging. Therefore, there are no right or wrong answers, it is important that each element expresses the opinion openly. In the specific case of this study, the aim is to gather information about the perceptions and attitudes of consumers in the pick and consumption of traditional foods. The expected duration is 30-40 minutes and the number of participants is 4-8 people. The questionnaire was translated in all the partners languages in order to be further used in consumers' survey. The translated questionnaires were distributed to consumers in order to collect data from around 200 adult consumers from Romania, Portugal and Spain. This will allow a comparison regarding the food preferences between the participants countries.
The leader of this WP, UCP-ESB from Portugal has already organized the first Focus Group in Portugal on the 2nd of February to verify if the proposed methodology can be applied in good conditions and a 2nd Focus group on 22 of February, including some improvements. Different target public groups were used. UCP-ESB will have a first report regarding the focus groups in the next 2 weeks from Portugal and further similar actions will take place during this month in Romania and Spain.
