Marketing Text This report shows how to identify good community access points. The methods described can be applied to a wide range of different communities.
Description For many people in groups vulnerable to social exclusion traditional places for finding information about training are not accessible, Social and cultural barriers exist that make it almost impossible for them to access libraries, colleges, official buildings etc. We therefore set out to establish what other places could be used by our target groups to find out about our enterprise education resources. We did this using volunteer researchers from within our target groups and have identified a number of places, some of which are very surprising.
Target group academics, VET and FE providers, community groups, third sector organisations. .
Result Important community access points vary between different communities. For example, for recovering substance abusers then places need to be safe, where they will not encounter current substance abusers. For older women a good place will be friendly, and not require too much money, for NEETs a community place does not have adults who will object to them being there. We have identified a number of places in each country and have permission from those places to site notice boards that will display materials and information while individuals in each of our places will act as a contact point to talk to people about the project and support them with taking our course.
Area of application As a tool for anyone wishing to reach out to groups vulnerable to social exclusion.
