Marketing Text "Care for Europe", a VETPRO mobility project, aimed at improving paramedic training and future cooperation in vocational education between professionals of paramedic fields from Leipzig, Germany and Kaunas, Lithuania and successfully did so in October 2012. With long lasting impact: During a one week programme of study visits and exchanges with colleagues in Kaunas, Johanniter e.V. paramedic professionals gained insights into Lithuanian daily working life and vocational training in paramedics and emergency medicine which led to new ideas for improving vocational training and, even more importantly, into implementing vocational education courses in close cooperation between Kaunas Vocational Training Center for Service Business Specialists and Johanniter e.V. educational academy.
Summary The VETPRO mobility project "Care for Europe" had the objective to give professionals from the Johanniter e.V. Educational Institute of Middle Germany, six teachers and trainers of paramedic field, the opportunity to gain insights and information about the vocational education in paramedics and emergency medicine in Kaunas, Lithuania and to foster an exchange with Lithuanian colleagues. The programme, which took place from 21 to 27 October 2012, consisted of study visits to a variety of vocational schools and training centers, both private and public as well as those run by the military and to different institutions active in this field such as, e.g. the dispatcher office, emergency stations and fire department in Kaunas. During these visits the Johanniter participants were accompanied by a tutor and translator and had the opportunity for exchanges, concerning details of e.g. content and best practice in vocational training and to compare similarities and differences in training and work life as well as the needs and challenges of the labour market. The visit to Kaunas vocational school of Service Business Specialists and its cooperating institutions has been based on a first meeting between trainers and teachers during a study visit programme in 2011, also funded by Leonardo da Vinci, where Lithuanian professionals visited Leipzig institution and also met paramedic professionals from Johanniter e.V. And more cooperation is in the planning, after Care for Europe was completed successfully in October 2012, an ongoing collaboration has already shown first results: Lithuanian and German colleagues are right now working together in order to establish training courses for paramedics. Therefore Care for Europe can be seen as a positive example of a sustainable mobility project with long lasting impact for participating institutions.
