Title International Program for Certified Future Strategist
Project Number 2012-1-SE1-LEO05-11667
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
This project aimed at developing a new profession in Europe: an International Certified Future Strategist – ICFS. This profession was planned to be a professional enhancement and career builder for many kinds of professions such as business intelligence, business planners, marketers, PR, HR, R&D, and general managers.
The project started in October 2012 with the cooperation of six European organizations and the first programme was held in the beginning of 2015 in Stockholm.
The duration of the International Certified Future Strategist (ICFS) course is in the range of 5-6 months, 3 days at a time at regular intervals with home assignments in between.
The ICFS course is composed of four modules.
Module 1: Environmental analysis
Module 2: Scenarios
Module 3: Vision & strategy analysis
Module 4: Strategy & action
The project was based on more than 15 years of experience from similar courses for the Swedish and international markets, developed by the project owner Kairos Future. Together with a strong team of European partners the project took this to a higher level, including new interactive tools for training and including new markets. We foresaw a training program that participants could engage in, in parallel to their regular work.
A future strategist is a person who combines his/her own profession with a holistic view of the company or organisation with an outside-in view of the company's operations. The future strategist gains through this project a toolbox for working with future issues and strategy development, as well as supporting visions building. By this, the new profession strongly added to Europe’s development, in gaining new insights and pushing for new frontiers.
The future strategist has an ability to move freely between different disciplines, such as HR, marketing, R&D, PR, etc. This profession, in combination with previous experiences, give the future strategist the means of improving the company's performance and thus bringing about growth and prosperity in the European market.
Within the framework of this project we developed new teaching methods and teaching materials. The project also developed a new on-line platform for systematic business environment analysis and future trend analysis. By utilising this new platform we ensured a long lasting impact on European organisations and business. The platform provided for a continuous dialogue and knowledge transfer between professions and regions.
The consortium consisted of six consultancy companies from Sweden, Finland, UK, Germany, Belgium, and Greece. For support to these institutions, we established collaboration with sub-contractors from university and certification bodies. By this we gained a very strong team in order to develop the very best vocational training.
The partners all work for strengthening Europe’s industry and society. The partners work in the fields of future studies, scenarios, visions, strategy, communication, and organisational development. The partners have long track record in working with private enterprises and public organisations, on local, regional and national levels.

We aimed at developing a tailored education program with the objective of leading to International Certified Future Strategist (ICFS) and a new job category. The program should promote equality between men and women and contributing to combating all forms of discrimination based on sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation.
This project lead to an education program and certification system for Future Strategist. Thus we filled the need of strategic and future management in organisations, private and public alike. A new job has been created and we enhanced the cooperation between VET and the world of work.
