Title Training Materials for the Master-class/Workshop targeted at trainers and support workers.
Product Type teaching material
Adaptation/development of ARCO Toolkit
Training materials for the master-class/workshop (2) targeted at trainers and support workers, including a guide for the pilot tests.
The approach to this Work Package was to take into account the adjustments required to the partner organisations' teaching methods, the training needs of the personnel involved, and the capacity building requirement of each organisation. In the application, it was stated that the Masterclass would take place over 3-days.
The two Masterclasses fostered a deeper understanding and forged the importance of 'Transferable Skills' in increasing the life chances of young people.
The Masterclasses provided 15 Trainers/Support Workers/Training Managers ("participants") from each country an opportunity to reflect on their current practice, especially the orgainisational culture that influenced and shaped their existing learning environment. By establishing action learning sets and adopting an experiential learning approach to the Masterclasses, participants exchanged their own practice, shared lessons learned and drew upon their skills and expertise to explore how the key competences were to be adapted and/or transferred to their own organisation. By establishing 'action learning sets' participants actively identified transfer issues and worked together to solve problems by sharing innovative and creative exercises that embedded Transferable Skills. This interactive learning approach ensured that all participants contributed to development of the Toolkit Guide, Session Plans, and Activity Tools. This approach not only generated "ownership" of the process it fostered a shared understanding and a common approach to the running of the pilots.
Target group Trainers and support workers working with young people in the participating partner organisations.
Result Traditional education and training modules like handbooks and other training tools
Area of application
The approach adopted included: i) an organisational review of learning culture within the partner organisation to ensure a smooth transition of the key competences, ii) how to embed active, participatory and learner-centred learning so that young people can achieve individual outcomes, iii) undertaking regular impact evaluation, in real time, to measure how well outcomes are being achieved, iv) how to stimulate and learn from dialogue within a group setting, and iv) how participants (Trainers, Support Workers and Training Managers) should observe and reflect on their own practice, to ensure ongoing improvement.
The Masterclasses spurred further research into effective practice for capturing "distance travelled" tools for young people. By exploring "distance travelled" in such detail, the partners have been better able to apply "what success looks like" to the development of training plans linked to the key competences.
