A few words on our final performance: our main topic was a love story between a young man and a young woman from different countries, that is to say a Greek girl and an Italian boy.
The girl’s father has intense objections on this union based mostly on old ideas and stereotypes and it is not that he is motivated by nationalist motives or feelings.
The girl returns from Italy and in an attempt to present her Italian partner she receives the support of the women of the family living back in Greece (mother and two daughters) and a whole plan is set up on how they are going to persuade the father.
After a series of funny incidents, though, the solution comes from a deus ex macchina; the grandmother! She secretly realizes what is happening and uses all her power to convince the father. The secret weapon proves to be a spaghetti carbonara dish, to be shared by the family as the welcome dinner, since the father is a great admirer of Italian food! The script flows smoothly and is harmonised with a part of the local culture when, in the end, it turns out that the person who makes all the important decisions in a traditional Greek family is the oldest one (in our occasion the grandmother)! The script also points out the interaction and the submissive relationship between the son and his mother, no matter how old he is after all.
The students created typical Greek, traditional types (a bit exaggerated though, as it is acting), and they managed to act really well, as they were very well acqainted with the Greek culture during their Glottodrama Lessons. And this stands for both, the linguistic as well as their communicational skills of the Greek language.
In the final performance script, we managed to put all the grammar points we had examined during our lessons, and so the students didn’t come up with any special difficulties.
Final Performance «Μακαρόνια Καρμπονάρα!» (Spaghetti Carbonara!) – Enjoy!
